English 8... The End...

jueves, 15 de abril de 2010

Well. in my opinion was a very good experience because we can use computer to help us to make the homework, and the use of blogs online helps us to finish in less time.

On the other hand, sometimes the classes became boring, maybe because of my style, I'm not a big fan of English classes. I like it, but on some level. But Sometimes, the classes were fun and I enjoy with new friends as they all seem nice. In english 8 I learned to use somethings that maybe I did not know at all, I learned not only english also about the world too and what is happening in this moment because the teacher was trying to make classes as free as possible to make us feel at ease. Finally, in my opinion, all this time was very educational to learn the knowledge of a brilliant person as well as my friends.

In conclusion, everything was splendid, I learned a lot about writing in english with my friends and teacher and I will always carry this nice experience in my thoughts...
And most importantly... I approve english 8!!

This phenomenon came to about 6000 BC, also, the numbers appeared in prehistoric times when man by drawing symbols, began to take control of barter. By that time, there is confidence in Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome practiced accounting and is in Rome where they have strong evidence of the theory of double entry. The tournament was inaugurated in 1955, at the suggestion of the French sports journalist and editor of L'Équipe Gabriel Hanot, as a reaction to a declaration on the part of Wolverhampton Wanderers as being "Champions of the World" by the British press, after a successful run of European friendliest in 1950. The tournament was conceived as a continental competition for winners of the European national football leagues, as the European Champion Clubs' Cup, abbreviated to European Cup.
The UEFA Champions League (usually referred to as simply the Champions League or historically as the European Cup) is an annual Association football cup competition organised by UEFA since 1955 for the top football clubs in Europe. The final of the competition is - along with the NFL's Super Bowl - the most watched annual sporting event worldwide, drawing just over 100m television viewers.
Prior to 1992 the tournament was officially called the European Champion Clubs' Cup but was usually referred to as simply the European Cup or European Champions' Cup. During the 1990s the tournament began to be expanded, incorporating a round-robin group phase and more teams. The UEFA Champions League should not be confused with the UEFA Europa League, formerly known as the UEFA Cup.
It is the most prestigious club trophy in the world. The competition was initially a straight knockout competition open only to the champion club of each country. Europe's strongest national leagues now provide up to four teams each for the competition.
The tournament proper begins with a group stage of 32 teams, divided into 8 groups. Seeding is used whilst making the draw for this stage, whilst teams from the same country may not be drawn into groups together. Each team meets the others in its group home and away in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group progress to the round of 16, which commences the knock-out tournament. The third team enters the Europa League.
For this stage, one group's winners play against another group's runners-up, and teams from the same country may not be drawn against each other. From the quarter-finals onwards, the draw is entirely random, with country protection no longer in force.
The group stage is played through the autumn, whilst the knock-out stage starts after a winter break. The knock-out ties are played in a two-legged format, with the exception of the final. This is typically held in the final two weeks of May.
UEFA awards €3 million to each team that qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, plus €2.4 million for participating in the Group stage. A win in the campaign is worth €600,000 and a draw is worth €300,000.
In addition, UEFA pays each quarter finalist €2.5 million, €3 million for each semi-finalist, €4 million for the runners-up and €7 million for the winners.
The tournament's current main sponsors are:
• Ford
• Heineken (excluding Norway, France, Switzerland and Russia, where alcohol sponsorship is restricted. In Norway the Heineken adboard is replaced by a chalk art picture adboard, In France and Switzerland the Heineken adboard is replaced by a "Star Experience" adboard and in Russia the Heineken adboard is replaced by a "No To Racism" adboard)
• MasterCard
• Sony
- The PlayStation, BRAVIA and Sony Ericsson are amongst the brands advertised.
• UniCredit
• Adidas is a secondary sponsor and supplies the official match ball, as they do for all other UEFA competitions.
• Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer is also a secondary sponsor as the official Champions League video game.
Individual clubs may wear jerseys with advertising, even if such sponsors conflict with those of the Champions League. However, only one sponsorship is permitted per jersey (plus that of the manufacturer), and if clubs play a match in a country where the relevant sponsorship category is restricted (such as the case of France, alcohol, and betting), then they must remove that logo from their jerseys.

Global warming...

jueves, 18 de marzo de 2010

What is..?
Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. Global surface temperature increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) between the start and the end of the 20th century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the 20th century was very likely caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases resulting from human activity such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation. The IPCC also concludes that variations in natural phenomena such as solar radiation and volcanic eruptions had a small cooling effect after 1950. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by more than 40 scientific societies and academies of science,[B] including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.

What causes bring this problem?
An increase in global temperature will cause sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts. Warming is expected to be strongest in the Arctic and would be associated with continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice. Other likely effects include changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, species extinctions, and changes in agricultural yields. Warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe, though the nature of these regional variations is uncertain.

Political and public debate continues regarding global warming and what actions to take in response. The available options are mitigation to reduce further emissions; adaptation to reduce the damage caused by warming; and, more speculatively, geoengineering to reverse global warming. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In my opinion this issue is one of the most relevants in the world because his impact falls in all of us. This problem beging with the greenhouse gases, that provocate the heating of the planet by not leating go the UV out of the planet (The UV are not reflected back).

More of this information can be found in so many articles and the internet is a very good source for this topic.

Natural Disaster. (Hurricane Katrina)

domingo, 7 de marzo de 2010

Date of disaster: August 23, 2005.
Type of disaster: Hurricane.

Description of disaster:
Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on August 23, 2005 and crossed southern Florida as a moderate Category 1 hurricane, causing some deaths and flooding there before strengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm weakened before making its second landfall as a Category 3 storm on the morning of Monday, August 29 in southeast Louisiana. It caused severe destruction along the Gulf coast from central Florida to Texas, much of it due to the storm surge. The most severe loss of life occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana, which flooded as the levee system catastrophically failed, in many cases hours after the storm had moved inland. Eventually 80% of the city and large tracts of neighboring parishes became flooded, and the floodwaters lingered for weeks. However, the worst property damage occurred in coastal areas, such as all Mississippi beachfront towns, which were flooded over 90% in hours, as boats and casino barges rammed buildings, pushing cars and houses inland, with waters reaching 6-12 miles (10-19 km) from the beach.

Visual of the disaster:
Aftermath:
Economic effects:

The economic effects of the storm were far-reaching. As of April 2006, the Bush Administration had sought $105 billion for repairs and reconstruction in the region, and this does not account for damage to the economy caused by potential interruption of the oil supply, destruction of the Gulf Coast's highway infrastructure, and exports of commodities such as grain. Katrina damaged or destroyed 30 oil platforms and caused the closure of nine refineries; the total shut-in oil production from the Gulf of Mexico in the six-month period following Katrina was approximately 24% of the annual production and the shut-in gas production for the same period was about 18%. The forestry industry in Mississippi was also affected, as 1.3 million acres (5,300 km²) of forest lands were destroyed. The total loss to the forestry industry from Katrina is calculated to rise to about $5 billion.

Environmental effects:
Katrina also had a profound impact on the environment. The storm surge caused substantial beach erosion, in some cases completely devastating coastal areas. In Dauphin Island, approximately 90 miles (150 km) to the east of the point where the hurricane made landfall, the sand that comprised the barrier island was transported across the island into the Mississippi Sound, pushing the island towards land. The storm surge and waves from Katrina also obliterated the Chandeleur Islands, which had been affected by Hurricane Ivan the previous year. The US Geological Survey has estimated 217 square miles (560 km2) of land was transformed to water by the hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The lands that were lost were breeding grounds for marine mammals, brown pelicans, turtles, and fish, as well as migratory species such as redhead ducks. Overall, about 20% of the local marshes were permanently overrun by water as a result of the storm.

Government response:
The United States Northern Command established Joint Task Force (JTF) Katrina based out of Camp Shelby, Mississippi, to act as the military's on-scene response on Sunday, August 28, with US Army Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré as commander. Approximately 58,000 National Guard personnel were activated to deal with the storm's aftermath, with troops coming from all 50 states. The Department of Defense also activated volunteer members of the Civil Air Patrol.

Retirement:
Because of the large loss of life and property along the Gulf Coast, the name Katrina was officially retired on April 6, 2006 by the World Meteorological Organization at the request of the U.S. government. It was replaced by Katia on List III of the Atlantic hurricane naming lists, which will next be used in the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season.

Reconstruction:
Reconstruction of each section of the southern portion of Louisiana has been addressed in the Army Corps LACPR (Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration) Final Technical Report which identifies areas to not be rebuilt and areas buildings need to be elevated.

Advantages & Disadvantages of Computers...

jueves, 4 de marzo de 2010

There are advantages and disadvantages of using computers nowdays...

The advantages can be such as:

Files can easily be shared between users. Network users can communicate by email. Security is good - users cannot see other users' files unlike on stand-alone machines. A file server is easy to back up as all the data is stored in one place. A computer allows a person to manipulate data easily and quickly, create text documents, edit them, print them, manipulate images, print them, send text and images over the Internet, download information over the Internet, interact with other people easily from home, keep records of transactions, activities, plan trips, and generally do far more than a person without a computer. Computers are very useful to make everyday life a lot easier. You can check the weather, email, search items, buy things type papers and much much more. You can also play games and post blogs and other stuff. People use computers in many ways. Can be used in business, inventions and scanners.

Some uf the Disadvantages are:

The teenagers of today's society have changed dramatically due to the Computer. Nowadays, the majority of teenagers have a PC and it has played a key role in their lives. Teenagers need to be equipped with knowledge of computer technology, as most things in life require the use of computers. One disadvantage of owning a computer is the information that students can access from the Internet. The Internet has also made the youth of today quite lazy, especially in terms of their education. If a student needs to research information for school, they merely access a relevant site and download the information, rarely paying attention to what is written. Purchasing the network cabling and file servers can be expensive. If the file server breaks down the files on the file server become inaccessible. Viruses can spread to other computers throughout a computer network. There is a danger of hacking, particularly with wide area networks. Computers are very engaging on children as well as adults. Kids with access to software that is not age appropriate may be exposed to such negative influences as violence, strong language, and over-stimulation from fast-action graphics.

E-mail (Advantages & Disadvantages)

viernes, 26 de febrero de 2010

E-mail is one of today's most utilized forms of communication, it has many advantages:

First of all is very convenient , in addition it saves time and finally it makesit very easy to stay in touch. It's convenient; specially because e-mails may be sent any time of day or night , likewise you don't have to worry about interrupting someone when you send email. It's helps you save time because it arrives inmediately and you can distribute information quickly to many people for the time it takes to email one person. Also it makes it easy to stay in touch, since you can write to your friends easily and it's the cheapest way to communitcate.

On the other hand, despite being very helpful and full of advantages , e-mails also have some disadvantages

For one thing it's less personal, another reason is that it's easy o make a mistake and last of all you need equipment in order to send an e-mail.It's less personal because you can't see the person's face or reaction when reading the e-mail. It's less personal because you can't see the person's face or reaction when reading the e-mail, you have to be careful with humor or sarcasm, since it's easy for someone to take your message the wrong way. Another disadvantage is the fact that it's very easy to make a mistake like sending messages to the wrong person or sending private/ confidential information, another disadvantage is the need for equipment in order to send the e-mail you need either a fast computer or a smartphone and both of these can be quite expensive; there's also a need for an internet connection, nowadays it's very common o have wi-fi signal in most places but sometimes when you need it the most an internet connection is not available.

Rubén Blades - Segunda Mitad del Noveno (Second half of the ninth)

jueves, 25 de febrero de 2010

In my opinion refers to the decisions we make in this life, as there are people walking without a path or afraid of what to do with their lifes, in some time the clock will mark the final hour of the "game" and we going to stay in front a door that we never going to open because that not was our election. Our whole life is full of decisions and these decisions are what determine our whole life, and if so, should be very important to know how to take them. Many times not knowing how to do to make the best decision, we continue in those that not giving us the expected result and we only relax by telling us that "at least we stand." But the emptiness haunts us so badly that ultimately we will not know what to do. The main idea of the song for me is do not be afraid to think, but having the courage to decide and say "we will win the game!" instead of falling into the question "Can we win?"

The three part paragraph... (HELLEN KELLER)

jueves, 18 de febrero de 2010

TOPIC SENTENCE
Hellen Keller said; “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it.” This can be seen all around us. Many people have faced great obstacles in their lives but have found ways to overcome and actually benefit from these obstacles.
SUPPORTING SENTENCES
Greg Barton had limited mobility. But even so, he taught himself to walk, and even to run. After many years of training and perseverance she made the Olympic team and became an Olympic medalist in kayaking.
He was an Olympic athlete and medalist despite having a physical disability. He had club feet, his toes pointed inward, and as a result, he could not walk easily. Even after a series of operations, he still had limited mobility. And as a result could never be an Olympic runner to overcome it he discovered kayaking, a perfect sport for he because it required minimal leg and foot muscles. Using his upper body strength, he was able to master the sport. And after many years of training and perseverance he became an Olympic athlete. His perseverance and willpower help he to overcome her problem.
CONCLUDING SENTENCE
“In short, even though that road was paved with obstacles, he was able to overcome them and achieve the impossible”

Esref Armagan...

Esref Armagan was born both unsighted and to an impoverished family. As a child and young adult he never received any formal schooling or training; however, he has taught himself to write and print. He draws and paints by using his hands and primarily oil paints. In this manner, Mr. Armagan has been perfecting his art for the past thirty-five years.

He needs absolute quite when working. First, using a Braille stylus, he etches an outline of his drawing. He needs to feel that he is "inside" his painting, in fact, when he is drawing a picture of the sea, he often wonders if he should wear a life jacket so as not drown. When he is satisfied with his drawing, he starts to apply the oils with his fingers. Because he applies only one color at a time (the colors would smear otherwise), he must wait two or three days for the color to dry before applying the next color. This method of painting is entirely unique to Mr. Armagan. He receives no assistance or training from any individual.

Mr. Armagan is currently forty-one years old, married with two children. He has displayed his work at more than 20 exhibition in Turkey and in Holland and the Czech Republic. He has appeared several times on television and in the press in Turkey and has been on programs of the BBC and ZDF.

A little about me...

viernes, 15 de enero de 2010

I was born in Maracaibo in 1990, January 26th.

My name is Marcos Moncada and I'm studying Public Accounting at URBE. I love listening to music a lot, specially in English, my favorite band group is one call "Lifehouse".

Well to find out more about me, this quote from Theodore Roosevelt is quite deep and I like what it means:

"Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are".

For me, it means you have to be happy with what you have. You should be proud of whatever you get. Wherever you were born you can write your own story, you just have to believe in yourself, nothing else... Remember that life is a blank page on which we write without a draft.
